2010

On February 23, 2010, Dr. Brian Becker provided direct and cross examination testimony in a transfer pricing dispute in U.S. Tax Court in San Diego, California on February 23, 2010. This testimony supported Dr. Becker's written expert report of January 2010.

2009

On December 5, 2009, Dr. Brian Becker was included in Euromoney's 2009 Guide to the World's Leading Transfer Pricing Advisers, distributed through the International Tax Review.

On November 5, 2009, Dr. Brian Becker spoke as guest lecturer at The Georgetown University Law School on the topic of transfer pricing.

On July 29-30, 2009, Dr. Brian Becker provided direct and cross examination testimony in the Federal Court of Australia. The testimony covered three reports he had submitted in a transfer pricing dispute between SNF (Australia) PTY Limited and the Australian Taxation Office. Copies of the reports are available upon request.

On June 17, 2009, Dr. Brian Becker provided direct and cross examination testimony in the Tax Court of Canada. The testimony covered two reports he had submitted in a transfer pricing dispute over guarantee fees between General Electric Capital Canada Inc. and the Canada Revenue Agency. Later in 2009, the Court's decision agreed with Dr. Becker's opinion on the application of the arm's length standard.

On June 8, 2009, Mr. Andrew Parsons spoke to industry executives at the CITE Transfer Pricing Seminar in Houston, TX, on "Economic Aspects of Transfer Pricing Principles."

2008

On October 29, 2008, Dr. Brian Becker chaired an IIR Seminar on "Fundamentals of Transfer Pricing" in London, UK.

On October 9, 2008, Tax Management Transfer Pricing Report published an article by Dr. Brian Becker entitled “Projected and Actual Profits' Impact on Licensees.”

On June 27, 2008, Dr. Brian Becker provided deposition testimony supporting his expert report valuing royalty rates for e-mail processes in Washington, DC.

On June 19, 2008, Tax Management Transfer Pricing Report published an article by Mr. Andrew Parsons entitled “The Rise of Intangibles: Applying Rules of Thumb to Profit Splits.”

On June 11, 2008, Dr. Brian Becker spoke on "Fundamentals of Transfer Pricing," at an IIR Seminar in London, UK.

On April 24, 2008, Tax Management Transfer Pricing Report published an article by Dr. Brian Becker entitled "The Economics of Cost Sharing Buy-Ins: Questions and Answers."

On March 26, 2008, Dr. Brian Becker and Mr. John Breen of the Caplin & Drysdale law firm spoke as guest lecturers at The George Washington University Law School on the topic of transfer pricing.

On February 20-21, 2008, Dr. Brian Becker provided oral testimony in the transfer pricing trial of Roche Products Pty. Ltd. vs. Federal Commissioner of Taxation at The Administrative Appeals Tribunal in Sydney, Australia.  Dr. Becker's direct and cross examination concerned the expert report he filed in the same matter. Later in 2008, the Judge assessed an income adjustment on Roche.

On January 30, 2008, Mr. Andrew Parsons spoke on "Fundamentals of Transfer Pricing," at an IIR Seminar in London, UK.

On January 9, 2008, Dr. Brian Becker spoke on "Economics of Private Student Loans," at the 2008 National Council of Higher Education Loan Programs Leadership Conference: As the Dust Settles in Sarasota, FL.

2007

On October 15, 2007, Dr. Brian Becker spoke on Economists in Transfer Pricing: Intangibles, Audits, and APAs, presented by Council for International Tax Education, Inc. in Houston, Texas.

On April 19, 2007, Dr. Brian Becker gave direct and cross examination testimony on the valuation of a pharmaceutical manufacturing company during a JAMS Arbitration Hearing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

On January 31, 2007, Mr. Andrew Parsons spoke on "Transfer Pricing Methods" at an IIR seminar on the Fundamentals of Transfer Pricing in London, UK.

On January 18, 2007, Mr. Andrew Parsons provided economic and statistical testimony at the U.S. International Trade Commission analyzing the potential effect of imported canned pineapple fruit from Thailand in the United States.

2006

On September 11, 2006, the Internal Revenue Service and GlaxoSmithKline Holdings (Americas) Inc. & Subsidiaries announced a $3.4 billion settlement. Dr. Brian Becker served as a lead transfer pricing economic expert for the Internal Revenue Service.

On May 23, 2006, Dr. Brian Becker filed an affidavit to the United States District Court, Southern District of New York as an expert on behalf of CalPERS in its lawsuit against the NYSE, trading specialists and other defendants.

2005

On November 16, 2005, Dr. Brian Becker discussed the economics of Mass Tort at a seminar hosted by the Gerson Lehrman Group at The Yale Club in New York, NY.

On October 27, 2005, Dr. Brian Becker spoke on the valuation of intangibles at Infonex's "Transfer Pricing: Best Practices for Managing the Corporate Transfer Pricing Function" Seminar in San Francisco, CA.

On September 22, 2005, Andrew Parsons provided economic and statistical testimony at the U.S. International Trade Commission analyzing the potential effect of imported urea from Russia and Ukraine in the United States.

On June 7, 2005, Dr. Brian Becker emceed a presentation at the National Press Club that introduced a new book by Accenture and Montgomery Research, Revenue Matters. Dr. Becker initiated the discussion, entitled "Maximizing Revenue, Minimizing Taxpayer Burden" and introduced two speakers: Dr. Kevin Hassett of the American Enterprise Institute and C. Ann Rettie of Accenture.

On May 25, 2005, Dr. Brian Becker spoke to industry executives at the Infonex Transfer Pricing Seminar in New York, NY, on intangible valuation in transfer pricing.

Dr. Brian Becker provided testimony in a case before an Appraisal Panel Hearing in New York, NY, on April 27, 2005 regarding the economics of sales dispersion and make-up sales. The testimony followed an affidavit that had previously been submitted on December 16, 2004.

Precision Economics chaired a one day Transfer Pricing Workshop and spoke at IIR's Tax Planning for Multinationals conference. Dr. Brian Becker spoke on such issues as cost sharing, benchmarks and independence.

Dr. Brian Becker testified at the U.S. International Trade Commission on March 2, 2005. His testimony was in regards to a report, co-authored with Dr. Kevin Hassett: "The Steel Industry: An Automotive Supplier Perspective." Copies of the report are available upon request.

Dr. Brian Becker provided deposition testimony in a matter before the Superior Court of New Jersey Law Division - Bergen County on January 28, 2005 regarding the fair market value estimate of but-for commissions.

2004

On October 25, 2004, Andrew Parsons spoke to industry executives at the CITE Transfer Pricing Seminar in Los Angeles, CA on the Economics of Transfer Pricing

On October 14, 2004, Dr. Brian Becker gave a talk on "Probability and Statistics" at the Digital Sandbox Risk Analysis Seminar Series in Reston, VA.

Andrew Parsons spoke at IIR's Annual Corporate Tax Congress held September 28-29, 2004 in London.

Dr. Brian Becker provided deposition testimony in a case before the Superior Court of Dekalb County, Georgia on August 24, 2004 regarding equity distributions in an IPO. The testimony followed an affidavit that had previously been submitted.

On August 18, 2004, Dr. Brian Becker filed an affidavit to the Circuit Court of Halifax County, Virginia on damages regarding a non-compete agreement.

On August 16-17, 2004, Dr. Brian Becker spoke to industry executives at the CITE Transfer Pricing Seminar in New York, NY, on the Economics of Transfer Pricing.

Dr. Brian Becker provided deposition testimony on punitive damages in the pharmaceutical industry regarding a matter before the Superior Court of the District of Columbia on May 20, 2004.

Dr. Brian Becker has been retained as an expert by CalPERS in its lawsuit against the NYSE, trading specialists and other defendants. On January 6, January 16 and April 6, 2004; Dr. Becker filed three affidavits to the United States District Court, Southern District of New York.

On February 23, 2004, Dr. Brian Becker spoke to industry executives at the CITE Transfer Pricing Seminar in New York, NY on Economists in Transfer Pricing; focusing on profit level indicators, arm's length range and cost sharing/buy-in agreements.

2003

Dr. Alan Salzberg is one of five inventors on a patent (Patent Number 6636585, Salzberg, et al, 2003) for statistical process design related to information systems testing.

Dr. Brian Becker was interviewed on October 8, 2003 Bloomberg Television regarding his recently released draft of "Profitability Analysis of NYSE Trading Specialists."

Dr. Brian Becker summarized his recent findings on the "Profitability Analysis of NYSE Trading Specialists" at a conference hosted by The American Enterprise Institute in Washington, D.C. on October 8, 2003. The research has been reported on by Fortune, CNN.com, Washington Times and Newsday. (Paper available upon request.)

On August 18-19, 2003, Dr. Brian Becker spoke to industry executives on "U.S. Transfer Pricing Planning and Compliance" at the CITE Transfer Pricing Seminar in New York, NY.

On June 17 2003, Dr. Brian Becker and Dr. Alan Salzberg provided economic and statistical testimony at the U.S. International Trade Commission analyzing the effect of dumped frozen fish fillets from Vietnam. Their testimony followed an expert report submitted June 11, 2003.

Dr. Brian Becker provided expert affirmative and rebuttal testimony in U.S. Tax Court regarding the value of shares in a privately held company on June 5, 2003 in New York, NY. The testimony followed a written expert report that had previously been submitted.

On May 6, 2003, Dr. Brian Becker spoke to industry executives on "Economists in Transfer Pricing: Profit Splits, Volume Effects, Cost Sharing, and Real Options" at the CITE Transfer Pricing Seminar in Washington, DC. Dr. Becker's talk also covered the role of independent, economic expert witnesses in transfer pricing.

On April 23, 2003, Dr. Brian Becker provided deposition testimony as a financial expert in a matter before U.S. bankruptcy court in Chicago, Illinois. The case settled favorably the following day.

On March 24, 2003, Dr. Brian Becker spoke to industry executives at the CITE Transfer Pricing sharing, volume effects, and real options.

Dr. Brian Becker provided expert testimony regarding the valuation of a computer company before Chancery Court in Delaware on March 4-6, 2003. On February 27, 2003, Dr. Becker had been deposed on the same matter.


2002

On December 9-10, 2002, Precision Economics chaired a conference entitled "Topics in Transfer Pricing and Valuation" for the Internal Revenue Service.

On November 22, 2002 Dr. Brian Becker provided testimony regarding allegations of international trade issues concerning ferrovanadium at the International Trade Commission.

Dr. Brian Becker spoke to industry executives on "Economists in Transfer Pricing: Cost Sharing and Real Options" at the CITE Seminar on US Transfer Pricing Planning and Compliance in New York City on September 23, 2002.

Dr. Brian Becker submitted a White Paper to the FCC entitled" The State of Venture Capital investment in the U.S. Telecommunications Sector on September 20, 2002.

Corporate Governance Advisor published an article by Dr. Brian Becker, Kim Hoyt Sperduto, and Marian Riedy, entitled An Examination of Goodwill Valuation Methodologies," July/August 2002.

Dr. Brian Becker addressed the topic "Valuation of Intangible Property and Cost Sharing Arrangements" at a conference at the Internal Revenue Service, San Francisco, CA, June 25, 2002.

Dr. Brian Becker was quoted on a front page article of The Wall Street Journal regarding cost sharing buy-in arrangements. His quote appeared in "A New Twist in Tax Avoidance: Firms Send Best Ideas Abroad" on June 24, 2002.

The 2002 The Transfer Pricing Handbook Volume 3, includes a chapter by Dr. Brian Becker on Cost Sharing Buy-Ins. A version of this piece, entitled Cost Sharing Buy-Ins originally appeared in the December 2001 edition of Corporate Business Taxation Monthly.

Dr. Brian Becker addressed the topic of "Valuation of Intangible Property and Cost Sharing Arrangements" at a seminar at the Southeast Region of Internal Revenue Service, Atlanta, GA, May 10, 2002.

On May 6, 2002, Dr. Brian Becker addressed a group of industry executives and attorneys in Washington, DC to discuss the comparable profits method and cost sharing. Sponsored by the Conference for International Tax Education.

On February 6, 2002, Tax Management's Transfer Pricing Report published "Comparable Profits Method: Accounting for Margin and Volume Effects of Intangibles" by Dr. Brian Becker.

2001

Corporate Business Taxation Monthly published an article by Dr. Brian Becker in its December 2001 edition, entitled "Cost Sharing Buy-Ins."

At the U.S. International Trade Commission, Dr. Brian Becker testified for the Respondents in the case involving ferrovanadium imports from China and South Africa on December 17, 2001.

On November 5, 2001 and November 16, 2001, Dr. Brian Becker addressed groups of industry executives and attorneys in Cleveland and New York City, respectively, to discuss comparability and cost sharing buy-ins. These talks were sponsored by ATLAS and CITE, respectively.

Dr. Brian Becker submitted an economic expert report regarding the effects to the domestic industry of potential trade remedies against steel imports. This report, filed at the United States International Trade Commission on October 29, 2001, was considered as part of the ITC's Steel 201 investigation.
